Default Airmass meter

As my spare MAF is now on the car I thought I'd better get the fecked one part exchanged, only to find my previous source only sells cheap equivalents Anyone suggest a company who can refurb the genuine ones to a factory standard. Cheap ones wouldn't last with the amount of air mine sucks in now

Presuming we're talking about 20vt, there are two cheaper routes, instead of expensive route you want to take:
1) prj mod to use cheap RS4 hot film MAF instead of expensive and fragile hot wire MAF you're using and want to retain for some strange reason
2) VEMS and sell your MAF to someone else.

vems is out due to cost and major rewire required as just want to drive the car now after years of having it in bits.
More details of the prj mod on the other hand could be useful as apparently my present maf airflow maxes out by 450bhp or less...

Where do you find any major rewire need for VEMS? Biggest "rewire" needed is adapter from JPT55 to econoseal if you want to save around 300 euros by ordering ordinary ECU, without Motronic55 option, if you don't then the pain is to swap two wires for one flywheel reader [don't remember which one].

Quick googling can't find thread in, I guess, s2forum, where prj described his RS4 MAF mod, but in quick - firmware mod for ABY/AAN/ADU ECU's to make them work with that MAF. prj intended to make that package - RS4 MAF + chip for it cost around the same as new 20vt MAF. IIRC requires one or two additional wires wired. Gains - MAF that's more rugged and cheaper to replace and maxes out at around 650 bhp.

Found it but not compatible as mines a 3B which he says is 'too slow for Hot wire mod'

Already spent a lot developing this system with the eboost 2 (no boost chip used in ECU anymore)

AFAIK he also made converter for 3B ECU. But where's the problem anyway? You're running 400+ bhp with distributor ignition and do not plan to go to COP? If you do, you can try to make a deal with prj that you buy ABY/AAN ECU and send him both ECU's so that he would copy that hot film MAF mod to that ECU + maps from your existing ECU.

In US they are being called astronauts and in russia cosmonauts - how do you call their british equivalents?

Known parts store in Rīga that could also order original parts, has listed 20vt MAF in their catalogue for 320 euros - usually the price ratio against dealer is 1,5x, which means that dealer would ask for about 500 euros - that's noticeably less than that quote of yours

Am still looking into a alternative for this but managed to get one in the 50% Euro car parts sale a few weeks back, stlll £270 but at least it runs better on it and still have my spare for an emergency and hope to have a long term solution to this shortly using one from another manufacturer
