Default B1 80gt

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum stuff and can be a bit of a technophobe but please bare with me. In the past I've owned a B6 2.5tdi Quattro sport, a B8 3.0tdi black edition Quattro s-line and presently own a new RS4 (which is stunning and sounds great). I've also started a small collection of classics including a low mileage B2 80CD, ( which I believe is known on this forum). All this leads to my main point. I passed my driving test at 17 in 1982 and my 1st car was a bright yellow B1 80GT, (GT stood for getting thrashed - and Gene Hunt wasn't the only bast**d to drive an Audi in the early 80's that only knew 2 speeds). I loved the car, but as with most teenagers, it finally succumbed to my heavy right foot and died an inglorious death. I'm now older, wiser, and considerably more conscientious, ( including a cleaning, restoring fetish). I know there are only a few of these left and would love to have another in my collection. So if anyone owns or knows of a 80gt please get in touch.

Hi there, which 80CD do you have? Not my old Inari silver one is it?

and as for a B1 80GT, well, there's about half a dozen known in the UK. Peter Noad has 2, Audi UK have one which they brought out to play for ADI last week, there's one which has been repainted a few years ago in a metallic bronze/brown although that is tucked away and not for sale. There was one sold in Scotland last year which briefly appeared on this forum but that went off the radar within a few days, and it could be the one that Audi UK purchased and had restored.
Derek has one which he uses to Race/Rally which is one of my favourite cars on here as well.
If you can live with a LHD then they pop up for sale over on www.mobile.de and there was a lovely one on there about 2 weeks ago.
Prices have soared on these as well. What could have been got for £3-£4k a few years ago will now see you forking out between £7k and £10k if you can find one!

Thanks for the comprehensive information. It's as I thought, these things are hard to soures but Rome wasn't built in a day. I think I'd prefer RHD so I'll have to be patient.

Patience is a virtue although I've been looking for 7 years now!

Hi Coxy
Just thought Id drop you a note so you can keep your records up to date ! It was me who ended up with the 1975 80 GT in Phoenix Red car from Scotland .Its a great car having only covered 50000 miles and being taken off the road in 1982 by the original owner. The interior is like new and the car is far from a basket case (ironically the rusty boot lid is the worst area ! Its undergoing a full nut and bolt resto next year with the aim to get it into concorse condition ! AND the Cliffe Green car HGT 7N was purchased by my brother who is a fellow Audi nut and fell in love with my Phoenix Red car ,Hes really lucky as it was owned by 1 owner from 3 month old (ex demo) who cherished it, It is absolutely rot free has never been welded and is also perfect inside!! Hes going to bring it to concours condition and like me keep it indefinately
