Default Indicator/hazard warning problem

Hi,
after being parked up for well over a year my B2 80 Sport is finally being put back into service! I`ll be taking it for am mot soon, everything seems ok apart from the indicators and hazard warning. When i flick the indicator stalk nothing happens the green arrow in the dash illuminates but does not flash, same thing happens when i flick the hazard warning switch, solid green arrow in the dash. The indicators don`t illuminate at all.
Any ideas,suggestions greatly appreciated indeed.

Thanks

I had a similar fault on my B2 GT - except the indicator lights lit & stayed on. Check the connections between the indicator stalk & the steering column as cleaning them fixed mine. I know this doesn't seem to account for the hazards behaving similarly but it worked for me

Hi Minty ,
thanks for your advice. I`ve removed the cowling behind the steering wheel, now can i clean between the stalk and steering column or do i have to remove the stalks altogether?

Thanks.

IIRC, I took the steering wheel off & was faced with a near-circular metal plate, screwed on, which the stalks are immediately behind. I sprayed WD40 (viewing it as similar to contact cleaner) and flicked the stalks on/off several times. If you can see the bases of the stalks now then you could probably do the same without removing the wheel.

Be very careful if you decide to remove the metal plate to take the stalks off altogether - the indicator has a spring-loaded assembly for cancelling, I broke the little post the spring works against because the plastic had gone brittle.
