Hi there, just got my 100 Quattro back on the road for the first time since 2008. I've been pootling around locally to bed everything in as the suspension has been fully rebuilt. Engine wise it has had all new belts, fluids, plugs, leads, cap, rotor. Performance wise though it is as flat as a pancake
It feels as if it has no torque and requires a bootful to even get it off the line. I know it's a heavy old lump but if i put my foot down in 3rd, i could get out and walk faster. Where do i start with this? Can i read codes off this engine? I see it has the two ports under the dash. It does idle rock solid though and doesn't smoke or cough. It's just goddamn slow! |

Throttle cable adjustment clip, took all the slack out of the cable?
![]() Yep, blink codes, paper clip and an 1.2v instrument lamp do it for me. Get the idea from this page maybe - these are three connector diagrams but I worked out how to jump the two pin setup from it somehow, can't really remember but i've got a diagram somewhere I drew, will find it tomorrow. http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/troubl...MC2.html#fctwo |

Reading faults are next to useless - unless you've installed check engine light and it lits up for some reason, which isn't the case here - that KE3-jetronic has such poor self diagnostic capabilities that reading faults on engine that cuts out above 1,2k rpm resulted in nothing - unless MAF was disconnected, then fault reading resulted in code that's for MAF
How about ignition timing? |

Thanks for the replies, i'll check the cable. I'm thinking along the lines of knock sensor. It feels a bit like my old 90Q before i changed it - all flat and sh@!te!. I'm not just going to throw parts at this one though, I really want to check each suspect component properly and be a bit more methodical.

Ok bit of an update; I'v been driving around for a week now and although it appears to be loosening up nicely it is still very flat acceleration wise. The weird thing is it will take off with loads of power when it is cold but this only lasts for 30 seconds or so and then it's back to it's old tricks. Could this be the effect of the cold start injector chucking more fuel in?

I think the cold start only fires for a few seconds, not thirty anyway. Changed the fuel filter and run redex through it?
I changed the lambda and knock sensor on a couple of mine recently and it made it much smoother, but not more powerful really. Sounded like a better mixture at the top end maybe. If you can work out how to get the codes out of it you can eliminate anything electrical at least. What do the plugs look like? Sounds a bit like a sh*tty pump or relay? It was somewhere between 10 and 20 seconds. If you want to count those seconds, just unplug differential pressure regulator and start cold engine - when it stalls, cold start valve was switched off.

Thanks chaps, the engine note sounds different when it is cold, for probably a minute or so it is like a different car and then it's like something goes open circuit and it turns into a slug!
