Default Manufacturing Engine mounts

Just a quick one guys

I'm not happy with the sourced engine mount and how its positioning the engine on my 1.8t conversion, so I'm going to make my own mount

What thickness metal would you recomend to make it from, I have some heavy gauge box section to use but I need to get some plate for mounting to the block and onto the mount.

Advice please ??

Thanks

Bry

Let me know if you need a hand with this Bry

Does it need raising/lowering?

Morning mate, thanks for the offer

It's not so much needing to go up or down, its more the original wasn't square probably out by as much as an inch so when I bolted it up it was twisting the mount AND the engine and I'm guessing over time with the vibration something is bound to give up.

So figure taking the stress out of it would be a good idea

How's your GT coming along near an MOT yet?

If an engine mount is under that kind of lateral strain there's something else wrong.

Hi Phil

Thanks for your response, on mounting the engine in the bay and onto 5 pot mounts, I did some homework and Biker Jim on here suggested B3 16v mounts would fit in the right place to match the mount bolts - it worked on hs B3 coupe.
I bought both and where the Drivers side (o/s) mount fits a treat, the n/s is easily an inch to far back to sit on the engine mount, initially with enough wiggling I got it to fit but was definatley not happy with the result as it put the engine off centre.

Unless somoene can tell me which is the correct mount to fit (I thought I'd bought it) I'm thinking this is the best route to take.
Unfortunatley I dont have ETKA not sure if thats going to help anyway as I dont think anyone has done this conversion yet to my my model or age of car.

Davow - thanks for the pm, I will giv you a buzz later but I cant modify the existing mounts as the distance between bolt and mounting is too great

Thanks again for your help

Bry

If your fabbing your own engine mounts 1/4" plate is more than strong enough, you can even use less if it is of a box construction or you are using gussets.
