there was a way a few years ago as you could contact a chap at the DVLA who would give you that kind of information if it was for official stuff like club figures, but they stopped doing it after his name appeared on a few classic car forums and his inbox got inundated with requests off people!

Mate, when I picked up my car, which is legendarily one of only six made, even Audi couldnt tell me.

All they can do is send a bar graph kinda chart of how many of that model sold over the whole year.Bloody useless, youd expect better from Raudi!

I know there's 1 Audi 80 variant!

Only problem is with the DVLA system is that the way they do their records, they won't differentiate between each car type. Their system will show as Audi 100 but won't differentiate between quattro, avant, saloon, turbo etc etc.

Why they must do it? They are counting cars of specific models, not optional equipment Our car register counts cars, depending on model name, written in car's pasport and first registration date. Let's say, rare occasion - in passport is written "Audi 90 quattro" - this goes to register. Also, many S2's are counted as coupes - I remeber one audi fan, who corrected passport - from "Audi Coupe" to "Audi S2 coupe"

I know the chap who has 2 of these 5. He keeps one for spares the other he brings to Club Audi shows. I can PM his number if you are interested. He has been trying to trace the '5' since he got his.

If you know the variant codes then you could work it out.

From what I understand, the DVLA can generate a list of all Audi 100 (for example) that are listed.
From this list you then have the ones which are liable for tax (i.e. un taxed for current use on the road) or taxed.
You then have a model identity marker which maybe either a letter or numeric code. Not sure which. These will determine if the car is a coupe/saloon/estate etc etc.

If you work in the DVLA and have access to the data base, and you knew what all the codes were then you could then generate a list of what cars and what type of car as still currently taxed and registered for use on the UK roads.

The downside of this is that this information is not publicly available.

You can get it if you are after it for something along the lines of an official club database but you need to out it in writing to a man at the DVLA and then await for him to get the information.
They did used to do it far more freely but word got out and he ended up getting way too many requests so stopped doing it.
