Default MB engine oil sump removal - easy?

Hi all

Having been spurred on from my successful replacement of the god awful racing tank with the original fuel tank for my URQ including reattaching the fuel gauges I thought I'd give a go at sorting the next problem... the flashy oil warning light.

On another thread I mentioned that I have the oil warning light come on, usually when revs pick up above 1,500rpm but also sometimes not at all and occasionally even straight from idle.

The combined wisdoms have suggested a blocked oil pickup which I've been led to believe is in the oil sump (makes sense!).

I've seen on isham the diagram showing where the bolts are to remove et al but wanted to ask peoples opinion as to how easy it is to remove the sump in practice? Assuming there's a gasket in place, will I need a new one for replacing? What bits can I easily brake (and therefore pay more attention to!) etc etc.

Pics would help immensely also

TIA
(whoever she is!)

It's not that difficult - would probably be 3/5 spanner job in the Haynes.

You'll need to drop the subframe slightly- there's a bracket which attaches to the gearbox and the engine. You'll need to remove this to access the two bolts at the rear of the sump. You can't remove this bracket with the subframe not dropped.

Best to unclip the wire for the oil temperature sender rather than try and undo the screw which holds it into the oil pump.

New gasket for the sump needed. New oil drain plug seal needed.

Sounds like I might wait until the VW mastertech guy moves in a few doors up so I've got decent backup (and access to his van and tools!)
