Default 2.0E low rev cough

Evening all
I picked up my B4 2.0E this afternoon, and a puzzling fault developed on my 150 mile drive home. If you are below 2000 RPM (1800 seems to be the specific point) and you give more than 1/2 throttle it seems to cough. It pulls through fine to the redline and above 2k it isn't a problem.
Any thoughts as to what I should look at 1st?

Cheers

Craig

What's the engine - mono [ABT], digifant [ABK] or KE-Motronic [AAD/ACE]?

Checked and it does say ABK on the cambelt cove and it does look like a digifant injection

elsewhere has mentioned the ECU relay being a common issue with this engine (relay 30).
