Thumbs up S1 E2/Pikes Peak Aerodynamics

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on here so its nice to meet you all!

Basically, I have an Assignment to do in University and id like to focus on the Aerodynamics on either the S1 E2 or the Pikes Peak quattro (1987). I was just wondering if anyone knew of any Aerodynamic related things to any of these cars? ie images or technical data. I know it is a long shot but i thought this would be the best place to ask!.

Thanks for your help!

P.S - Would anyone have an Email address for Audi? I cannot find one anywhere.

Hello and welcome to Classic Audi.

The S1 E2 was reported to weigh 1200Kg and due to its aerodynamics the wings created 500kg of downforce at 70 Mph.

To see images do a search on google images.

was the first car to go up pikes peak in under 11 minutes shaving something like 40 seconds off the best time up to that point.

even today (24 years later) the best time is only something like 20 seconds faster than the s1 did it.

You might want to speak to Keith Edwards he has a full pikes peak kit on his quattro.

500kg of downforce at 70mph seems crazy Brian are you sure thats correct?

As for the current Pikes Peak cars they are a good bit quicker now. The 10 minute barrier has been broken. Granted a lot more of the course is tarmac.

500kg doesnt seem too unreasonable. Bernoullis principle and all that....
Air velocity and the pressure differences created by that monster wing.

You will struggle to find alot on the aerodynamics as most wont have been retained or published. Unless you can find a suitable contact within germany who was around during its development.
