Default For those who like winter tyres

I didn't realise this but until this year car insurance companies considered the fitment of winter tyres as a modification to your car and as such charge you a premium or if you crash without declaring the winter tyres they can use that as a reason to forfeit your claim payment!

That about sums up the stupidity of insurance companies, that they would penalise drivers for fitting safety devices! Funny that one of the insurance company spokespersons stated they thought it was silly to charge a premium for fitting essentially safety devices, YET they charged a premium themselves until this year!!!

thats actually bollocks.

It was a mistake by someone in a call centre last winter which got blown out of all proportion, and then the ABI (Association of British Insurers) said it was rubbish.

Old news I'm afraid.

Nope, wasn't taken as being rude! It's good to know when supposedly reputable motoring magazines talk absolute tosh!

I''ve always known their fuel economy tests are far lower than real life, mainly because journalists get to rag a car that they don't own and burn fuel they don't have to pay for!!

Read an article of theirs on the x type which I brought up from a few years ago prior to buying one this week. They struggled to get it into the 40's yet on a combined city and journey run I came out at 54mpg!!
