Hi Guys
Wondered if anyone has been bitten by the classic rally bug or is interested in giving it a go. I started a few years back knowing very little and now it's become a bit of an obsession, not that I'm particularly any good, it's more of an escape, a sort of rally bubble where you can immerse yourself in all things petrol head. Currently doing the HRCR clubman rally championship www.hrcr.co.uk which is a superb challenging series, also done a few long distance continental regularity rallies, hardcore night/day endurance events, autotests, scatters, trials etc, etc I originally used a TR4 and have since moved onto a Triumph 2000 MK1 but I'm just about to finish preparing a 1958 DKW Sonderklasse, which might seem to many a strange choice with its 896cc two stroke engine, but this is Audi's forgotten competition winning machine that probably had as much impact as the introduction of the Quattro in its day. In 1954 Walter Schluter won the European Rally Championship in a Sonderklasse (special class) and during a 10-year period from the mid-1950s, DKW achieved 100 championship titles winning over 150 races, with a 2 stroke engine under 1000cc! Formula one champion Jim Clark drove a Sonderklasse in his first ever event. So I'm hoping for great things for the 'little Audi' and I have to say it will be the only Audi in the series. There is every make imaginable involved with the series; BMW 2002, Porsch 911s VW Beetles, Escorts, Vauxhalls, Triumphs, Wolseley, Healeys etc, but not a single Audi... watch this space. Few pictures attached: Goodwood revival 2002 with Johnny Herbert & Emanuele Pirro swapping their Audi R8s for DKWs, Audi TT with its ancestor and the 2000 MK1 in action. Cheers Dazzer |
