Default NOS Speedometer Cable 1983 CGT

Looking to replace my speedo cable.
Anyone have a UK or German source?
Is there cross compatibility with other VAG cars of the same vintage? Golf/Scirocco?

You'll need a left hand drive speedo cable... I would suspect it will be specific to cars with a 5 pot engine/gearbox layout too...

Have you got a speedo that goes... at 40kph?

No, it bounces at the last 10mph after deceleration. Once you re-apply the gas it stabilizes.

Speedo or just the drive gear? Check it out first Matt.

I know I'll start sounding like a cracked record on this AND I know I haven't had this happen to an Audi (yet) but on every car I've had these symptoms with, bar one, it's turned out to be the drive gear at the gearbox.

The other possibility is the cable is dry/contaminated. When checking the drive gear, it's only one step further to pulling the cable out of the outer to inspect and lubricate.

PS: if you are really in trouble, I have a good spare here. There should be plenty around though.

I'm investigating the gear in the morning. In the mean time, if I were to "refurbish" the existing cable by taking it out and cleaning it, what lubricant might be best for the cable inside it's shroud? Silicone?
