Default Diff mounts/ prop shaft mount?

I have a 1990 20v coupe quattro.
I get loads of transmission shunt, Banging sound and gearstick moving, when pulling away in first and when applying/coming off the power when in fifth.
I've just fitted a poly rear diff mount but It's still the same.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this????
Thanks.

more likely to be gearbox mounts on front subframe... the O/S one has exhaust near it which affects its durability. Also worth replacing the centre bearing for propshaft.

Just done the same, fitted new rear center diff mount and its still clunking

I had a look at my prop and grabbing it and push/pull and it clunks so that is my next suspect (rubber donut that the bearing sits in is fubard at a guess). OEM is ££ so I am going to use a bmw one as its £15 or £30, just make sure the propshaft is aligned straight if you fit a new bearing/mount thing.

As above the gearbox mounts.

Thanks for the advice.
I'll have a look at the gearbox mount, I hadn't thought about that, I think I might have a spare one.
How much lateral play should there be in the prop shaft?
Does anyone have the BMW part number for the propshaft mount?
Can you split the prop shaft at the UJ or do you have to remove the whole shaft to remove the mount?
Cheers.

I would imagine there should be no play, I can clunk mine, so its knackered, I guess as its a rubber bush there will be some deflection when new, but not clunking.

How to and discussion of bmw part is here;

There are two gearbox mounts, one on each side.

If anyone is thinking of getting the BMW centre bearing from GSF Car Parts at about £16 then my advice is not to bother as it is of poor quality and wouldn't hold your trousers up let alone your quattro propshaft.
Took a punt on one of these and it's still in the box.
Peter Reeve does the OEM centre bearing at about £130 ish ( memory?) which is the route i will take if i have to renew.
I'm replacing the gearbox mounts and rear diff mounts on my CQ this week - hopefully this will get rid of the slight movement/shunt i'm getting around the gearbox
