Audi 100 turbo engine into non-turbo Audi 100

Hi,

I have a 1990 Audi 100 2.3 quattro Avant which I really like, and drive everyday.

I have the chance to buy a 1990 Audi 100 Avant 2.2 turbo (same colour and everything I think), which is the 182BHP engine, but the owner has changed the ECU and apparently its no 200bhp or so.

If I have the complete car, how hard is it to transplant the engine, ECU and relevant wiring etc across?

The 100 turbo is 2WD, so I won't be using the gearbox.

Does the engine loom for my 2.3 non turbo engine just unplug from the fuse panel, and then plug the 100 turbo engine loom in?

It seems like too good an opportunity to miss....... especially as I will have a ready supply of spares...........

I would imagine the turbo has an ecu but not sure yours does. You will need to check.

The turbo does have an ecu, but if I have the whole car, can I unplug everything from the turbo model, and stick it into my non turbo model?

I imagine the engine itself would drop straight in.
As you probably suspect, its the wiring that'll cause the migraines. Having said that, its pretty old school so it might be quite straight forward. Theres an article in Practical Performance Car this month about a guy transplanting the engine from an Omega into a Scimitar. Apparently he ran the Omega and just snipped at wires till the engine stalled! An interesting approach to trial and error.

The best idea would be to remove everything right up to the fuse box, and perhaps even transplant that too. Compare it with your own, If they are the same just with different things missing or added, it may just be a plug and play affair, but be very gentle with all the electrics and take your time. Do you have another daily driver? It will take you about three times longer to complete the job than you originally anticipate! Make sure you fit a new clutch while everything is out, and have a good supply of gaskets. May even be prudent to do the cambelt and water pump too if theres no history for that.

All good points, but if you are going to do the cambelt while the engine is out, make sure you undo the crank bolt before you remove the engine its monster tight.

well, I went to see the car tonight, looks good (different colour though!).

Will buy it next week.

It has air con too which will get swapped over!!!

Lovely velour seats (not as supportive the the quattro seats) and trip computer!!!!!!!

Cost me 3 bunches of flowers and spending £4000 on the garden though!!!!!!!

thsose engines are 165 hp standard i have one, would like to no what ecu it has to get 200? i want that lol

An intercooler and a chip will get them up to 200, my dad used to own one and that was went onto a Rolling road and was 198bhp at the flywheel.

This one has an intercooler I think.

It is one of the last cars, when I pick it up I will check out the engine code.

Bascially I am buying it for spares, with the bonus of having a turbo engine chucked in for free!

There will be a 2WD gearbox for sale at some point.......
