Modern WRC transporters are around £150,000. Would cost enough to run that thing!

The trailers not the problem to run. It's the unit. You simply cannot turn up at any F1 race circuit in the world in any old unit. It has to be either a Topline Scania with a V8, a Mercedes Actross with a V8 / V6 or an Iveco Stralis or a Leyland Daf 95 Mega Cab. They have to be painted in the right eye catching colours not just plain factory white which is what all trucks come in unless you have it factory painted. Now, for a unit of that spec, and it'll have to have two huge ally fuel tanks either side and possibly a cat walk ally tank too for the distance. Bank on 100 grand for the unit and anywhere upwards of probably 100 grand for the trailer, fully kitted out. My old ( when I worked for Wincanton) curtainsider 45 foot double decker trailers made by Don Bur were 55k new in 2005. They were just empty trailers with a 10 tonne front to back hydraulic platform.
A lot of the trailers you see used for motorsport are ex - 16 foot high 40 foot long Tri - axle Marks and Spencers (bought and owned by them until they contracted out most / all of their transport to Gist and Wincanton) double deck fridge trailers, cost a fortune when new and probably 25k second hand. Then you have to put the ramps in and do the interior re-fit.
Then finally fuel the truck, pay the drivers ( you'll need two ) the tolls, the ferries, the tyres, breakdown cover, road tax ( !!! Huh hum !! )...................oh and factor in depreciation. Cheap they ain't.

as you say, cheap they aint! a new trailer to that spec is around £120,000 from the specialist companies. a race team i used to work for was enquiring and eventually found a cheap option of getting a boat builder to convert a trailer - not the cheapest way to go racing...

Yeah, but getting Noah to build a transporter is being a bit of a cheapskate really!

no word of a lie - it was an ex jammy dodger trailer... apparently it took them a day to get the vinyl off, and the outline still showed through the first coat of paint. the finished result was top notch though

That'll be Burtons then from Warrington. Thing is all a trailer is, is a box on wheels. You can do anything with them..............even put pallets on and earn some money.

one good thing, the tax is low, £186 or near as its not used as a goods vehicle, I clocked the tax discs in a few trucks at Rockingham last month and it was so.
