Default S6 Thermostat

This may sound a bloody daft question but where does the thermostat sit on the AAN 20valve engine. Is it at the end of the top hose from the radiator? I think it is stuck partly open as the needle stays on cold all the time apart from when standing in traffic. Climate never really blows hot either even when it indicates 27 degrees. May even mean I get better fuel economy too!!
