Cutting out when hot

Hi,
I was driving to work down the A52,when my car jerked a couple of times whilst I was doing 60,then on approach to a roundabout the traffic lights were red,when I braked the car cut out,it took about a minute to get it started but the same thing happened at the next roundabout. On the way home,when I pulled out of a junction the revs climbed but the car barely moved,good job nothing was on the road at the time. The car is a 1995 Audi coupe 2.0. If anyone can suggest what it could be it would be most helpful.

Have you checked security of intake and vacuum pipes, that'd be a start. Sounds like air leak??

Hi John,
vac pipes seem to be secure, no apparent leaks. There is a blue sensor that goes into the throttle body, and its protective cap has been removed in the past and the wires have been taped up with electrical tape. I wonder if this could have some bearing on the problem? Also is it worth changing the ecu relay?

Might be worth stating what engine type? I was thinking ACE/16v?

As John said it sounds like an air leak. Happened to me on my 2.0 ABK engine. Car would start normally and drive when not very hot but as soon as it got hot it would behave as above. Turns out there was a rip in the rubber boot after the throttle body.

Mine too is an ABK 2 litre. I had look yesterday and could not really hear any air leaks, or engine pulling in air. Maybe I should let it idle until it gets hot, perhaps then something will reveal itself.

Most likely is the ecu relay - a well known problem on the ABK

Thanks Mike, i`ll order one now. For how much it costs it`s deffo worth trying. I`ll stick it in as soon as it arrives then I`ll chance the journey to work, fingers crossed.
