Default Typ 44 Fan Resistor

Righto, lets try this one more time. I desperately need a fan resistor part number 443820523B for my 44 100Q Avant. If anybody has this part please let me know, it will be used with anything that utilises the old style red display climate (typ 44's, V8's).
I can get one from a 100 that is currently being broken up the country (on ebay) but they want a small fortune for the part!

Thanks in anticipation

You have full speed or nothing symptom? No fan at all = new motor, about £80 I think.

I put a good used resistor in mine years ago and it did bugger all. got it somewhere I think, will have a look in daylight if that's what you need. £10? I paid £15 inc postage.

What's a small fortune by the way, out of interest?

That sounds good:-)can you confirm p/n the same? I'm kind of hoping it's not the motor that s!?gged it. When I turn the motor by hand it does seem quite hard to turn and it's next to impossible to grease the spindle without taking it out. I'll pm you add. deets.

Not sure if the Audis have it, but lots of cars have a thermal fuse on the resistor so if the fan motor is tight the thermal fuse will go, worth a look, they are pennies from maplin, solder a new one in and bob's your wossname.
Of course if the fan motor is pulling too much current the new one will pop...

If it's hard to turn the motor, then obviously it is the motor PLUS it has fried that thermo fuse of resistor. You won't grease anything there, because fan, of course, has some ball bearings, not sleeve bearings.

Well, you see.... There's a problem here.. I went looking for it then remembered that I sold it to someone on here about a year ago.

The one I had looked like this -

But anyway, yeah, your motors phckud! Dunno what yours is like but this was mine, no AC.

I'm thinking that is the case. When I took the resistor out it is quite a large thing with a heat sink on it. The business part of it was quite literally blown apart so it must have put a fair bit of smoke into the cabin when it went. I don't know where I'm going to find one short of that breaker up the country - he wants £60 for the resistor alone, god knows what he'll rush me for the motor aswell, and that's presuming it's good.

BTW the motor runs when I bridge it directly. Would I be right in saying it should run on full speed with no resistor present? I have nothing at all at any setting...

Not sure on your one, sounds very different to mine with the heat sink, I know the one you mean though. On mine there is a bi-metallic strip which causes an open circuit if the resistor overheats I think. I've heard that is these (mine) if the individual resistor elements burn out it will still work on full speed.

If your motor is still running that's a good start! You need a 200/V8 person really, most 100s just had the setup I've got.

Yeah mine's a bit of an unusual old thing, an ex Audi UK car with everything thrown at it from the factory
