Default Lack of power

Owned GT5 1987 2.2 for 19 years. Recent problem with this old friend due to sudden lack of power, engine starts fine but then sounds as if missing. When driven runs reasonably for 400 yards when power goes completely as if no fuel. Starts again within few seconds and this repeats and may only go 100 yards. New distributor and coil have not corrected this fault. Plugs all seem fine. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

As you say really, blocked fuel filters/injectors etc, dodgy tank of fuel, blocked air intake, blocked exhaust... Erm, coil broken down. Alas, it's a potentially long list).

Ignition amplifier may be overheating and going open circuit, but check for spark first when the fault re-occurs.

Also as per other posters, fuel problem? Pump, lines etc.

Glad it's on the road to recovery, can be a nightmare finding a fault like that, so many things... Good luck.
