By the looks of it, I'd say mid/late '80s. The rod is probably still available(!) for only a few quid from Audi.

Soon as possible,its a pain after a while having to wind down window each time you get out the car.Its mot failure too! Cheers!

ahh!! you MAY find you need the full mechanism, reason I say this is because I had to change mine on the WR and it was easier just to replace the whole lot other wise its a twat of a job.
My cable was snagging so the window would stick to the point i was worried the cable would jam then i couldnt open or close the window.

have you concidered a complete door?
