Default Brake pipes

Having ordered most of the bits I need to overhaul the brakes it is just the brake pipes to the rear that I need to make up. This is something that I have never done before and although I'm happy to do it I can't find anywhere to get pipe to hose unions from. Possible daft question but what size should I be getting? Have noticed there are metric and UNF available.

Also it wouldn't hurt to change over to braided hoses being as I have an advisory on one of the existing. Can anyone indicate a preference between Goodrich and HEL or is it just branding?

Thank you.
