I was brought up on a mixture of ska and punk back in the late 70's early 80's (influenced by 2 older brothers), then Indie and Goth became my thing up until the 90's when dance music took over, although I'll always have a bit of Indie in me!
Rave/Hardcore/Old Skool call it what you will, then yer trance and speed garage through the late 90's and into the noughties, and for the past several years my music taste has mellowed somewhat mainly listening to trip-hop and acid jazz, with a lot of Dubstep for the weekend! So what's yours? |

I liked the old Ska two tone genre, then became a mod with a chrome vespa scooter,i then enjoyed very much the punk scene, then on into rock, reggae, bit of trance dance, world music artists like Sheila Chandra,Salif keita,Afro Celt Soundsystem, worked as a dj for a while, now listen to just about anything as long as its quality.

I love these threads.
Personally I have loads of influences My love of easy listening comes from years of listtening to the radio of my mum and dad. My stepdad was a huge rock and roll teddy boy so Elvis, The Everley Brothers, Neil Sedaka, Del Shannon just trip off the tongue My love of Northern Soul definately stems from a misspent youth at the local youth club leading to all nighters at various remote locations and the odd "bluey" or two. Led to me owning a Lambretta and getting into Ska My love of the Beatles comes from playing my bessie friends parents collection when I was very young My love of mid seventies Rock and Prog Rock stems from my old school friends collection of Queen, Pink Floyd and Monty Python albums. His brother was at uni so we used to borrow his new fangled stereo and record collection. My love of 80's electronica stems from my Saturday nights fuelled by a weekly cash wage and boozy nights at Rock City in Nottingham. My love of the Manchster music scene is a result of living up here, getting kids out of the way and starting to re-aquaint myself with the live music scene (thank you Jill xx) Nowdays I have a 30gb mp3 player with over 6000 tracks and I take it everywhere. In short I love music ![]() |

Cool thread idea Monsieur Cox!
Got into The Police big time back in about 76/77.Hadan ear for music and started playing stringed instruments aged 5. Gary Numan's music then pulled me rrrright off course.I continued to listen to his music, with more of a lean towards Japan as the years went on.OMD,Classix Nouveaux,Depeche Mode,Duran Duran,Kraftwerk,Soft Cell..... Loved the hip hop sound at the same time Rock Steady Crew,Afrika Bambaata,Roxanne Shante ... Went through the oligatory XR3i/Granada Ghia X days listening to soul like Alexander O Neal,Luther Vandross while loving The Smiths,Hanoi Rocks,Lords of the New Church,The Mission were played loads too.Loved that lot, really powerful music ... The stadium bands as well...U2,Simple Minds,The Alarm..... Then,I started working in Our Price as if the tastes werent wide enough as it was! 1987 and the first Ibiza sounds with DJ Alfredo mixing up his eclectic batches of tuneage sent a warm tingleus down my spiney! I went back there again and again, all of my music was on vinyl and at one point I had over 23,000 12 inch singles in my home... I could go on and on,but after this week,Ive had enough!lol!
