why do they still call it dakar when its now argentina and chillie based?

Good question, I guess if they could still hold the Paris-Dakar on the old route, and hopefully someday soon, they will be able to go back to using the old route once the 'locals' put their guns away.
The Paris - Dakar is such a well known annual rally, so I guess it's now more of a case of hold it where you can but the name still stays the same until it returns.

good point but i think the new location is better serviced safer and the locals are not death mongers like the old rally

The picture of peterhansel going down that impossibly steep drop, is in the back of autosport this week. Just imagine getting to the top of that ridge, seeing you can go no further, then just turning right ! Brilliant.
