Default 2.3 KV engine start problems.'91 Audi Coupe

Have been trying to resolve this starting issue for a month or more now.

Problem is : FIRST start of the day , engage starter, engine fires and then..... IF the throttle is so much as dabbed, the engine stalls and will not re-start for a while ( flooded ? ) If the accelerator is not touched, the engine shudders along at about 450rpm , just "chugging" and if left , the accelerator may be VERY gently tickled/dabbed AFTER about 30 seconds.
Revs rise about 100rpm ....then after a few more dabs and by now about 50 seconds, the engine can be very gingerly accelerated up to about 1500rpm.....

After which there are no further starting issues for the rest of the day.

Have changed cold start valve and idle control valve plus both temperature senders on the block.( at least the water temp gauge works now! )

Running out of ideas.

Any ideas gratefully received.

PLEASE NOTE!!! My mistake, the engine is a NG code

I have the exact same issue on my other CQ, which is in a very long list of things to do.

I am not one for replacing random parts, but I had a hunch it was the warm up regulator not working when cold so not getting enough fuel.

Take a look here from Mr Paynes site it might help.....

That's not getting mixed up...that's showing off !

Have you checked the HT electrics? Ok it is probably an air/fueling issue but wouldn't do any harm to check dizzy cap and clean any crap from around the coil tower?........maybe check the resistance of the leads?

This same problem has been experienced by other 2.3 audi owners including myself, we also replaced cold start valve, didn't work and after weeks of searching, it was fuel filters, there are hidden ones!!!!!!
Car had stood a while, fuel dropped quite low and pump manages to suck up and force through detritus from the tank. After thorough cleaning from the pump forwards, problem solved.

Somebody else on here may be able to locate other thread, worth a read.

Definitely not showing off, there are too many seriously well informed guys on this forum with cars that are to dream of. My humble Coupe is supposed to be the daily driver but is driving me a bit crazy with the list of "snags" that never seems to get sorted.

Will give your suggestions a try tomorrow , weather permitting!!
