Default Audi 80 sport

my audi does 3900 rpm at 70 mph am i right to think it has a quatrro box? Its an A reg 80 sport with the dz 1781cc engine, speedometer and rev counter look fine the tyres are 185 60 14, 4th gear feels like 3rd and 5th like 4th due to the engine being louder and pick up is very fast, ???

Sounds a lot of revs for 70 mph, perhaps other Series 2 sport drivers could advise what their cars are turning over at revs wise at 70 mph. My old Series 4 1.6 had a low ratio gearbox compared to the 2 litres and that was doing 3,500 revs at 70 mph and 4,000 at 80.

look in the boot lid or boot somewhere for the transmission code your car SHOULD have, and see if you can find out if the gearbox has a number on it???

Also if it had a quattro box there would be a dirty great flange on the back of it for the drive to the rear wheels............

And is it a "true" 70mph (measured by GPS) or a "speedo) 70mph????

there is a sticker on the inside bootlid but is withered away cant read it, the log book which i remember top of me head says 80 gte so i know its a sport/gte, would the rear flange thing be a part that could be disconected and removed from the actual gearbox and also the rear driveshaft leaving just the 4x4 gearbox to drive the front wheels? What im thinking is...in the past this audi might have needed a gearbox and the mechanic must have unknowingly fitted the wrong part that was supplied minus the rear flange and rear driveshaft?? the speedo shows 70 mph not by gps, i knw it can be out by 2 to 4 miles, but thats on nearly every car, at 60 mph nearly every lorry was over taking, ??

I have a Audi 100 quattro gearbox sitting in my garage and it is fahooking massive and heavy, the flange looks like it can't be removed.

The 80 Sport gearbox I have is liftable by 1 person, the 100 quattro gearbox is a 2 person job.
