Well, if it's a way the government can reel in a few more quid on the innocent motorist, then I'm surprised it's taken them this long to come up with it.

they probably get 2 cost savings here.

1 based on the fact the costs are passed to the not guilty party

2 a motorist may decide to accept a guilty/fixed penalty fine if knows he will get hit with costs, ie will be less inclined to challenge a fixed penalty

I also heard yesterday on 5 live that the CPS will now start to look at trying cases on the basis of cost effectiveness. So if they are presented with a case whereby the fines are minimal, compared to the effort required to put the case through court then they will not take the case.

I doubt those useless b@5t@£rd$ will take any notice of it after all it's not like they were elected to serve us is it? only to line their own pockets

Exactly, thin end of the wedge. BAsically its a case of get in your box and stay there or else get the big stick treatment.
Sooner these t*****s get thrown out the better. Not that the other options are much better.
