Default Sparkie Plugs

Having just serviced the S6 this morning, why is it that the spark plugs are never ever tight when you come to get them out. I do check them periodically but they always seem loose to me i.e. Just undo without any force at all or are even loose. Why, is it the the fact that the sparkplugs are steel and the head is alloy??

Yeah, that's one thing you have to watch on the 20V's Rich. Especially the one's with coil packs. I've found new plugs don't seem to move much after fitting, but if they've been removed and put back they can become loose over time. Maybe due to the crush washer becoming less effective.
I tend to check the plug's are torqued up at every oil change (6mths or 3k miles).

Will watch out for this then as mine does indeed have the coil packs fitted. New plugs fitted today!!

I suffer from this too.... Spark plugs do not actually come out but I never need much force to get them out, maybe the smaller sized thread /plug diameter have something to do with it!

Maybe it is then. Just hate taking the big cover off with the coil packs and flexing those wires. I hate to think how much that lot costs from Audi??!!!!

£120 a coilpack iirc rich....... Shocking money.

The forces and resonance within the head contribute to the plugs wiggling free over time.... As pete says keep checking up on them....

Or around £75 each from www.hansmotors.co.uk
They'll all involve a bit of soldering to replace though, which is a PITA.
