I use my 80CL for work, a 100 mile a day commute (until I get the 100 quattro back on the road). I fill up with petrol every 3 days, and drive down the A4 between Calne and Newbury, so it is quite a fast road, with a few opportunities for overtaking, and I keep to the speed limit (of course, officer) ish.....
Then there is a section of A34, then some B roads for 10 miles. When overtaking I am using 3rd gear at 50, and putting my foot right down so both butterflies on the Weber are open. And I got 39.9mpg on my last tank of petrol!!!!! Unheard of. Well happy! |

I haven't got a rev counter, just a huuuuuuuuuuuuge clock. So 3rd is good from 50-70 for most overtaking, it is a Coupe gearbox, so I think 4th and 5th are longer than a 80 Sport gearbox
