I was wondering what is generally considered the optimum size for this car, in terms of ET, width and height before it starts causing problems with clearance and handling?
The car will be running Toyo R888 road legal track-day slicks. |

15x7 ET40 or as close as possible.
You can get stock audi wheels is ET37 or ET45, the former making for a wider trackwidth. 15" wheels allow for decent brakes for a CQ and sufficient for its application. Weight saving will be your friend, get the car as close to 1000kg as possible (not hard to lose nearly 200kg our of a quattro) and the braking efforts required will be lower.

The alloys that I was thinking about getting were Team Dynamics Motorsport Pro Race 1.2 in 16x7, too big?
But I have seen some nice old school wheels which are 15x7 but they are ET25, is that too OTT? |

ahhh well I think i'll leave the ET25 then, I do like the euro look though
![]() I won't have any problem with Et38 16x7 with 195-50 will I, also one thing a friend mentioned is that I will pay a premium for 16" tyres due to them not being fitted as standard on most cars? |

I've heard that 17" tyres are often chaper than 16" for that reason.
I would definitely stay with 15" wheels. It was the factory size for the Ur-quattro and the car looks nicely balanced with them. Also a guy I know replaced the factory Ur Ronals with 17" wheels that were much heavier and he said the handling was not as good after changing the wheels. I have 195/55-15 tyres on my CQ and the speedo is exactly accurate with them on (compared to GPS). The footprint is the same as the factory 195/60-14 and the rolling diameter is very slightly larger but still well within tolerance. 205/50-15 and 195/50-15 are slightly smaller than factory rolling diameter, making the car slightly lower-geared - still OK though. The 195/55-15s are perfect and I'll definitely stay with that size. |
