i had a day of today coz the kids are of school so we went to see the new set up that has been built to house the german uboat u534 , it is the only uboat so far to be recovered from the sea bed , it is also one of the bigest ever built , it was alowed to be recovered because it wasent a war grave all the crew escaped as it sank , its a bit of a mystery what she was up to as admeral donitz had ordered all uboats to surender but for some unknown reason she was making out to sea when spoted be a liberator from raf 547 squadron which droped depth charges one of which damaged the stern and she took on water till she sank , all the crew escaped some used a torpedo tube , she then lay on the sea bed for 40 years , in august 1993 she was lifted into fresh air again ,there are rumours that hitlers collection of rare tresures was hidden on board one of which was the spear of destiny which was the spear stuck into jesuses side while on the cross ?,unfortunatly the mystery continues as the captin took the manifesto to his grave after refusing to divulge the cargo , she now sits at the mersey ferry woodchurch landing stage in a new purpose built centre which is full of the artifacts found on board including inigmas , flags , uniforms , medals ,wepons and much more a very interesting display , and a well worth visit

its just one of those realy interesting days its a shame its been cut into three as when the hisoric warships museum was going it was in one peice and you had to book to go on a gided tour which was realy fab crawling through hatches pitty , i drove past the old historic warships site today and all the ships have gone now thay had a frigat the plimouth and our last deisel/electric sub the onyx both were involved in the falklands war , thay also had the last surviving tank landing craft from d day which i found tied up further down the dock still in need of restoration sad to see .

The fact that it hasn't been restored and is in ' as it was found condition' makes it more appealing somehow. Looks bloody creepy though.

I used to drive past it a few years ago when I worked nights. Even more bloody creepy when it was in it's rusty but complete state back then, looming out of the darkness..... ![]() |

its the conspiricy thearys that are attached to this u boat that get me interested there are so many unuseual things about it , it was carrying enough fuel to get it to south america in one go , it was carrying realy sufisticated torpidos which could only be fired when it was completely silent as thay honed in by sound , it had two enigma machines of the most up to date variety , enough food to feed the crew for a month , a cargo loaded under secret conditions with only the captin knowing what it was , and why was it heading for deep water after all the other u boats had surendered , it was only used as a weather reporting and training vesel during war time ?so why the torpidos and fuel ?![]()
