Default Help me identify this!

Right im have a noise which sounds like a wheel bearing coming off my audi 100 quattro.
I have jacked the car up and there is no play in the wheel so thought it might not be the bearing, the noise is coming from the front, its loud when going in a straight line and turning right but if you turn left the noise goes away, it is quiet below 45mph.

You can hear it above the exhaust and if you watch this vid clip at about 40 secs in you hear it whining.
Also have a jumping speedo which i wasnt bothered about (does it sometimes not always) but have just been told that it could be the diff bearings and that would cause a whining noise from the car.

Someone please help! cant get any garages to look at it for a couple of weeks as everywhere seems fully booked!

if the noise is worse when you turn right it should be the N/S bearing as it is under load then the o/s is unloaded

Default .

Maybe the diff if the speedo is bouncing...

Especially if it only does it when in a straight line or turning one way..

Ive never owned a Quattro but on another car Ive owned this was how my diff was when starting to wear.I added Lubegard, available from oregonperformancetransmissions on ebay.It is not a bodge, that particular transmission shop in the States are highly recognised and recommend using it as an alternative to immediate/expensive replacement.

Alternatively,try checking the CV joint.

Just my twopenneth worth!
