Default B3 front suspension legs/hubs and B2 1.8 sump

Evening Gents,

I take it I can remove the front leg components from my b2 and replace them with B3 separate hub and strut components ?

If so I'm after both front legs with hubs from any B3

And the standard steel sump and oil pump from a 1800 or 1600 audi 80 b2

Thanks in advance

Kiran

Not "any", but Typ8A, model years 1989-1991.

Also, there are two hub sizes, 20v, 2.8 and 20vt uses 82 mm bearings, the rest 75 mm bearings. I'm not sure if your current CV's will fit 75 mm hubs, probably you'll have to change outer CV joints or both driveshafts. To widen part availability, there's no concrete reason to look for exactly Typ8A struts, any mk2 coupe or B4 struts, as long as they are for desired size hub, will fit - there was only somewhere in the 1992 changeover for bigger bolts which joins both parts together.

You will also need suitable brakes, IIRC the bolt spacing for calipper carrier is different, what I do know for sure that main difference in early Typ89 suspension and brakes from B2 is use of C3, not B2, brakes. And since you're after Typ8A struts, you might also be interested in ARB change - cars with split struts use ARB with links attached to upper strut parts - you can keep your wishbones and ARB, but cars with split struts uses thicker ARBs - 23 mm for 4 pot Typ8A, 24 mm for 5 pot Typ8A, 25 mm for mk2 coupe and oridinary B4, and 26 mm for 2.8 and S2.

And finally, split struts uses different brake hose routing, I guess, to ensure clearance between hoses and suspension.

BTDT. My early Typ89 now has left of it's original front axle only subframe and springs.

Ball joints are larger on b3/4 than they are on the b2 but the lower arms are the same.
