1985 Audi 80 Sport 113000 miles, one owner from new.
Zermatt silver, with factory extras of sunroof, power steering, and front foglights. Regularly serviced and always kept in well ventilated garage. Driven regularly ( 3/4 times a week) , mixed urban and motorway 1985-1991 Driven much more occasionally 1991 – 1998. Driven daily April 1998 - Dec 1999 . Since then rarely driven more than 1k a year. Rear-end in the first two years and had a new rear quarter and lower rear panels along with new lights. No other incidents. Waxoyled regularly during the first 10 years. Immobiliser fitted ( condition of Insurance Company in 1994 - two ‘keys’ for it, and have the certificate.) All original keys available. Personal leather steering wheel ( slightly smaller than factory item) New valve guides at approx. 74k. New clutch and cable at 94k Front brakes upgraded to 256mms Fairly new battery. Boge Pro Sprint dampers with slightly lower Eibach springs. Dipped and main beams are fully relayed, with fuses, resulting in good lights. LED bulbs in dash switches. Extra soundproofing added. Interval wipe relay. A period Clarion 980 radio is fitted along with upgraded Trio/Kenwood rear speakers. MOT is due in December, but could re-test before, tax runs out end November. Driver’s seat is still OK, (it does have a very small amount of wear , approx. 1” dia, on the bottom of the backrest bolster). Passenger’s seat has fire extinguisher mounted underneath the front of the frame and the rest of the interior is good. Gearbox oil changed twice, engine oil very regularly regardless of mileage covered. Regular and space saver spare wheels. The ‘bad’ bits ( ! ) are currently - Needs four new tyres, DONEplenty of tread left, they look fine, not perished, BUT three are at least 15 years old and the fourth is 11 years old. Wheels would benefit from refurb. Needs new rad and thermostat. done Cam belt should really be changed due to age ( last done in 2008). Brake fluid due for changing( fitted with one way valves at the wheel cylinders/calipers so quite easy to do). I have several bottles of VAG power steering fluid , I was going to flush and refill the system but have not got around to it. I’m not sure if the oil temp gauge is actually working, it rarely moves from the low point (except after lapping at Castle Coombe for fifteen minutes back in the early 1990s! ) it does move off the stop but local running around doesn't heat up the oil much !There is a small slight grubby patch under the lower LH front screen rubber , it’s a bit of corrosion starting, but it has not got any worse over the last eight years (it was pointed out by AMCars). ABOUT TO BE DONE The inside of the various box sections ,door pillars etc, and everything else , were well Waxoyled during its early years so should be OK. AMCars sprayed the whole of the underneath with a waxy, coat. It’s on a classic insurance policy with a value of £4500. Since 1999 I doubt it’s got wet more than half a dozen times! but has now got wet twice inside the last week The accident damage was poorly dealt with and subsequently needed further rectification after twenty years. This was undertaken by AMCars and included cutting out corrosion between the rear quarter panel/ boot floor/rear lower panel ( there was no seam sealer applied at the time of repair!) They also cleaned up several surface scabs from stone chips and ended up repainting both sides. If you look carefully it is possible to tell that this has been done. All the various front suspension /sub frame bushes were replaced along with arb bushes and gearbox mountings. A total of £4531 was spent on a comprehensive refurb ( full details in their invoice). The cylinder head was off for new valve guides at approx 75k and the valves were ‘unshrouded’ at the same time and a Jetex exhaust was added ( no longer on the car). This was undertaken at BRMotorsport, where the car was regularly serviced at the time. A rolling road test after this showed a corrected 123 bhp instead of 112 bhp. There is a pile of receipts, papers, documents, including the original invoice. I also have various spare lights, front and rear, wiper motor, grill, filters, old original front brakes, various small items, clips etc to go with the car if required. This car has been featured in VWAudi car and Audi Driver over the years and I have spare copies of the pages. Having owned this for just over 31 years I shall be very sorry to see it go but I’ve taken almost a year to consider this and it’s now time! I don’t consider that it’s spotless, immaculate or any of the words that are all too often used but it is very well cared for and is 31 years old. Yesterday collected a new MOT with no advisories I’m thinking of about £2795. 01344 455373 or send pm for an initial discussion. Sorry to see you selling Chris, I can imagine it must be a hard decision after owning a car for so long and obviously your Sport has been well cared for judging by the bills you have to hand.
Sounds like a bargain to me ; sadly the driveway is full and the bank account empty but wish you good luck with the sale and hope you find someone who appreciates what a great car the 80 Sport has always been. |

Thanks Frank, I've been thinking about it for almost a year and have finally decided that the time really has come.
Prices are always difficult but I do know that a 'low mileage' one ( no idea how old or what mileage !) was up for sale earlier this year at £5k ish and still no takers. The AMCars bills were spread over almost a year - I took it there and left it - a bit of 'as and when'- to get the cheapest price! It sure did drive better on the way home! We both ended up with reasonably well paid jobs and a very small mortgage and that meant we could spend more on keeping the cars in really good condition. Unlike some guys I have a wife who likes nice cars and always wants them to be clean, well maintained, very reliable and happy to spend to keep that situation ! Don't you just envy me Last edited by ChrisG; 28-09-15 at 01:52 PM. |

I imagine you would rather it went to someone on the Forum, but if you really want to sell, then obviously places like eBay and Gumtree are the possible answer, and even Autotrader has produced good results ( to my surprise ) in the past. Good Luck with your beautiful Sport, I hope it finds a deserving home. |
