Evenin' All,
My fog-light switch packed up all together last week. With an MOT due soon I decided to strip down my console and see if I could repair it. To my surprise it is a relatively basic design. ![]() The switch comes apart easily with careful prying using a small, flat head screwdriver. Inside I found 3 small fine springs, another slightly larger spring, a ball baring and a tiny almost triangular shaped bit of metal. The plastic behind the fog light symbol had perished and somehow prevented a good connection from being made when the switch was pressed. Just had to clean the innards out, re-grease and re-assemble everything. There are no fancy wires or circuits inside. It's a 15 minute job (excluding the console dismantling) once you understand what you are looking at. There was a plastic block within the switch. In that was a hole where the ball baring sat, a hole for the larger spring and 3 tiny holes for the smaller ones. The triangular metal piece lay against the 3 small springs and one half of it fit into the 2 lugs which moved up and down as the switch is pressed. The switch works now although no light illuminates it as the perished plastic is what channeled the light behind the symbol. Nor is there a definite 'click' to it anymore, but it does the job again. A few quid saved. Last edited by Ringmaster; 24-09-14 at 09:42 PM. |
