hopefully mine wasn't the answer to your problem.

knocking noises from the engine are never a good thing though

where does the noise seem to be coming from, top of the engine?, bottom? Is it high pitched or a duller thuddier type noise?

do you get the same effect if you rev the engine or just when it's in gear and pulling hard?. Personally I would just check to see if it's nothing simple, something loose perhaps.

Don't discount tappits. If they car hasn't had a service for a while then it could be a problem. Other than that has anything been done to the engine recently which might need to be rechecked.

As always check the basics and count them out first.

if the noise starts to get louder, I've found that turning the stereo up will normally compensate it!

If its not doing it on tickover or whilst revving the engine when stationary you can more or less discount the engine. I had similar on another car years ago and was lack of oil lol. Check the basics. Whats the oil guage reading btw

Thanks Guys,
Just been to see my mechanic who thinks I'm Nurotic (cant spell it)
I cant help it with this car, Ive owned loads of top new cars and couldnt give a crap about them, but poopy is getting to me. Its the first classic Ive had and I cant bear the thought that she going to die!!
Im a propper nut case!
Its not the engine!!!
The gaskett has gone on the rocker cover and the tappets need alot of tlc, apparently the engine is strong, Should be really only done 69 thousand miles.
