Default Audi 90 forged wishbone bushes. End of tether.

As most will know I use a 90 20v as my daily, this car has the sport package and as such has the forged wishbones, I want to get some new inner bushes (wishbones to subframe) of which there are 4, 2 per side.

But........

There are 2 different types, one for the forged/cast wishbone like mine and one for the pressed wishbone.

That much I know.

But looking around the web trying to find the dimensions of the bush needed is getting confusing, across various internet sources I have got diameters of:

24mm
25mm
35mm
45mm

Now obviously something is amiss there, I know the cast/forged wishbone uses a larger diameter bush than the pressed but what exactly is the diameter?

The reason I want to know is I don't want to fit polybushes (cost) and can get standard rubber bushes easily, but I need to know they are the correct ones before I pull the car off the road and remove the old bushes, a course of action that if I don't have the correct replacements will leave the car off the road till I can get the right ones.

ABY cast bone 893 407 157 has outside diameter, of the outer part of the powerflex bush of 45mm. The difference in part numbers I fancy will maybe only be that the ABY wishbone has a 3 bolt ball joint and the arms look offset.

My money is on 45mm for yours.

Common myth about the forged arms only being on sport models. Every 7A I've seen has had forged arms at the front.

the 24 and 25mm can be ignored. possibly for early cars with the drop links in the wishbones.

The two sizes are 35mm for the pressed and 45mm for the forged.

There's also different types of the forged arms. Later ones have an extra lug on the outside of the casting where the bush fits. Makes it much easier to remove the old bushes.

Mike both my fwd and quattro 7a had pressed wishbones. Every possibility they got replaced by a backstreet garage who couldn't be bothered doing the bushes at some point though.

Edit to add, of course that was on a coupe, you may well be talking 90 only?

Spot on. I bought floflex bushes for mine last year about £40 for all four corners!
Choice of St/St or carbon steel inserts.

Cheers James I'll take you up on the offer of a pair on loan! Means I can paint them all up too.

Thanks for the info, seems I want 45mm bushes, I just don't want to pay £60-70 for power/superflex.

Re. the Floflex bushes. where did you get them from? Just looked on their site and only VW listed, no Audi. I'd pay £40 for fronts never mind all 4 corners!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-80-B4-Fro...item41561bd1f8

only listed on their ebay site, and they do fit in the 90 as installed by herr nogin.
NOTE if you email them they will ask which sizes, from memory its a bigger front slightly smaller rear. cant quite recall the exact sizes but nogin will know or highly likely mike the encyclopedia will know

... all this reading on 90 q 20v rally cars has me thinking...
