Hi,
I have had a problem that comes and goes, although as time goes on, its more comes than goes!! ![]() symptoms... Lazy to start(sometimes)worse cold than hot. Imissions are through the roof. Power band is all over the show as is throttle response. Power can come in one big blob! Uses oil and water more than ussual. Fuel consumption down. Please help me. Cheers,al ![]() |

Get a compression test done on it. If it's even and over 100psi across all of the cylinders then it's not shagged. If you have one down then there's a serious issue.
You should test it when cold and when hot. If you're a pot down when hot then it's likely there's a crack in the head. If you're not down on one under any conditions, re-test with a squirt of oil down each bore. If the pressure rises significantly when oil has been admitted then you're getting blow-by past the piston rings, so the bottom end is failing. If none of these varies stable results (and they're good and over 100 PSI) then look to your fuel system and check the system pressure and health. |

Thanks for that.
When I say I am using oil, I am using more than I have on the other Coupes I've had. I'm not worried about the amount, It's just a symptom I thought I needed to add to the list. The lumpy running and the strange power fluctuations are my real concerns! I would be shocked if a 60k engine with full service history was shafted! What I forgot to add was that the previous owner had a re-map. Could this be the issue? Cheers,al. ![]() |

A remap?
This is a K/KE-Jet 16V motor, isn't it? if it is then all that could be done is a warm up regulator tweak and remapping of ignition timing, to be honest. The 'map' is defined by the shape of the bowl in the rising plate meter! Do a compression test and then call judgement - you need facts here, not seat of the pants impressions. |
