Default Youtubed...

Took 73202 out for a run today, didn't realise the kafuffle it'd cause with the rail enthusiasts... Quite funny really...

I’ve got the trainee driving whilst I watch the birdies.

Here's my pic at Brighton Lovers Walk

They'll cream their pants if they find out where we're planning to take it tomorrow.

But that's a secret.

He's a Railway Engineer, who's pretty much spent his whole life working on 73's, since 1961 when they arrived new from Newton-le-Willows. He retired in 2006, but comes back to keep the last couple of locos running. The company named the loco after him at his retirement for his dedication to the fleet and unrivelled technical skill... He is, Mr 73's... (A 'Pete Berry' - of 73's if you like!!)

Nice pic Ian! Where are you taking her tomorrow??

I remember when a pair of 73's worked the 16:34 Fridays only from Portsmouth to Leeds train through to Birmingham New Street back in the early 80's. Got some pics of them somewhere 73108 and 73134. The kaffuffle they caused at New Street was astronomical!

We'll hopefully get the pathway confirmed tomorrow morning. But it's something like..

10:50 Stewarts Lane (BSL M&EE) - Pouparts Jn, Croydon, Gatwick, Three Bgs, Horsham, Pulborough, Arundel, Littlehampton, Worthing, Hove, 14:26 Brighton, Haywards Heath, Gatwick, Croydon, Pouparts Jn, Stewarts Lane. Running Code should be 0Z73 again.

So down the Mid-Sussex Line... Be the first ED down there for a few years...

The British Rail Class 73 electro-diesel locomotives are very unusual in that they can operate from a 750 V DC third-rail supply but also have a diesel engine to allow them to operate on non-electrified routes. This makes them very versatile, although the diesel engine produces less power than is available from the third-rail supply so they rarely stray from the former Southern Region of British Rail. Following the withdrawal of the more powerful Class 74 electro-diesels in 1977, the Class 73 is now unique on the British rail system.
