hey, today forthe second time my brakes have started to stick on my 88 wr quattro, usually after being in traffic. if i leave the car around 15 mins, pump the pedal until its hard then start the car it seems to be ok....for a while. Aparently the master cylinder was changed to a BMW item just before i bought the car, bur sounds to me like a piston somewhere sticking. Any ideas??

Had the same thing..felt like front brakes were pumping themselves on!.
![]() .sometimes go for a week or two without happening. Ended up swapping the master cylinder and was fine afterwards..needed new pads and discs though ![]() |

Very commonly master cylinder, but bearing in mind it has been changed already, it's worth checking the balence bar used in the lhd to rhd conversion has not been adjusted up too far.If it has it removes the free play required for expansion. Worth also checking that none of the calipers are sticking. Quickest way is to use an ir thermometer onto the discs, if you don't have one, jack the car up after a short drive and see which wheel is tight.

I have also heard that the brake hoises can cause this they perish inside and stop the fluid returning correctly

still havent got round to doing this, but have found a bilstein/febi brand new brake pressure accumilator in the shed, worth trying?
