All budding auto electricians hear Ye hear Ye!
I am currently organising the Coupe Quattro loom and labelling it. Anything I wont be using will be carefully removed from the loom by removing the pins not needed. However, with a full loom laid out in front of me, I have removed the headlights loom and engine loom for KV and started working out which are the gauge wires and the auxiliary components. I have a few plugs I am unsure of, this thread may be useful for anyone needing to rewire sections or just for as reference material. Ok so first small query is part of the headlight loom, its a two pin round yellow plug under dashboard that has a long (read very excessively long) 4wire loop that simply loops the two pins together. The wires are about 2metres long.... ![]() I'd like to know its purpose and reason for the excessive loop. If its not necessary then i want to remove the plug and simply connect the two wires to each other... Next is part of the heater control loom, it branches off further back from the heater control switch and fan variable restistor section. Its a black 6pin plug with 5 pins connected (bottom left), the black/blue wire to it branches off the heater control switch. The heater control switch can be seen bottom middle. Also has a black two pin round plug on same loom section. This is part of the main central electrics loom that goes across to the dash console btw. ![]() If anyone can confirm the connectors function and also the smaller two pin connector i'd be grateful.... I'll update this thread with anything else i have problems with. Jay

Yes i think it does relate to the foglights, its certainly lighting related but i've left the piece of paper with info on back home...
Can anyone clarify what the symbols circled indicate on the wiring loom schematics? I have an inkling they relate to the fusebox connector but want to know for sure... ![]() The Grey section at the top is the relay/fusebox and the power tracks. The S4/S5/S6/S8 are the fuses.

Sir Simmonds mentioned this, I wasnt aware the Quattros used a resistance wire for headlights but Ian made me aware of this point...... Guessing removal would affect the dim/dip of the headlights. I'm having to rewire for spotlights too so will probably need to beef the headlight loom up abit.

The symbols are pin / connection numbers. Thats an early URq wiring diagram, surely you should be using the 86 Coupe GT diagrams?

Having crosreferenced most of its the same james, in fact theres very few differences between the looms, mostly additional components in the UR.
So does that mean A14 is = connector A and pin number 14 on that connector??

On the underside of the UR fusebox, each connector is marked with a letter, A-G. As far as I know, the numbers for onnections correspond to the pins in each connector. The relays slots are marked in a similar way too.
You really should use the later wiring diagrams, the UR wiring diagram changed every year, plus there was a major wiring update for the 84 model....... and then there would be errata on the first issue diagrams too..... |
