I would like to keep the original engine in my car (ie the DT block stamped with DT to keep it "original"), but I would like approx 130-150bhp from it (to get it above the 75bhp it is now!).
I have a DT engine (on a weber carb) and 2 DZ engines in my garage. I think the DT and the DZ are basically the same (apart from one is 1.8 and mine is 1.6). Basically a DZ is a 1.8DS with fuel injection. I like the carb, and I loved my Mark 2 Golf Driver with a 2.0 TSR engine I once had..... ![]() ![]() Can I use the DZ crank to get the extra piston travel, can I also get the DT block bored out to 2.0 and fit bigger pistons? I fancy something like this on Weber DCOE http://www.tsr-performance.com/websh...valve-package/ My engine has the folowing spec: http://www.enginerebuilding.eu/audi/...cl-gls-dt.html DT: Bore 81 x 77,4mm DZ: Bore 81 x 86,4mm 2.0 3A pistons: http://techtonicstuning.com/main/ind...o7c51fk4a5n0c3 83.5mm x 92.8mm, 2.0L 8V 10.5-1CR) PS no smart knobend comments from MSH.......

Yes you can fit the 86.4mm crank from a GTI.
Or if you want 2.0 you can use parts from a 210mm bubble block Audi (80 B3). Remember that most 2.0 use a taller 220mm tall block which means rods/pistons aren't directly interchangeable The head can be ported well. I'd need to check, but you probably already have the gti sized 40/33mm valves (some short stroke 1.6's have small valves) Inlet manifolds are available that allow you to fit a single Weber IDF carb.. This means you can keep the factory airfilter to keep it all looking OEM

You can't safely bore your block to 84.5mm. 83mm is as big as you should go in that block.
Bore your block to 83mm, fit wossner high compression pistons, fit a 1.8 86.4mm crank with 144mm rods, have the head ported (with 35mm exhaust valves if you can stretch to it), fit a decent cam, a Weber 44 IDF.. Should see you about 145bhp and look 100% OEM. BTW I used to build them for a living ![]()

Took me about 20 minutes to write and now its gone ![]() Coxy, is there a maximum Geek level set on the forum? something that automatically deletes really dull geeky replies? ![]()

I'll keep the geek level down this time..
Pimpdriver.. no, I'm afraid the 32/34 will not flow enough air. To get the power figures your looking at you need either a single twin 44 or 45, or a pair of twin 40's. I'm a big fan of using a single twin 44 in this application. Use the crank (86.4mm) and rods (144mm) from your DZ, bore the block to 83mm and fit Wossner 11:1 compression pistons. Have the head ported and polished, and have 35mm exhaust valves fitted if your budget will stretch that far. Cam choice will depend on how you want to drive. Personally I'm very tolerant of high duration cams (I ran a Shrick 328 in a daily). Supplies would be Piper, Kent, CatCams or Newman. I highly recommend Newman. Then you choice of induction and exhaust.. either twin 40's (sidedrafts) for the motorsport look, or a single 44 (downdraft) for the stealth OEM look
