Hi Mort,
You mean the backplates?..... They are there to keep the worst of the wet/dirt out of your calipers to help 'em work in the rain, and to make the parts last a bit longer..... Generally (and counter-intuitively!) they are shaped to help channel air into the centre of the vented discs to help cool 'em. (vented discs flow air from the centre to the rim!) The ones on my 200 turbo (yours car's older brother!) link with a set of ducts which run from the 'oles in the spoiler. Many people remove 'em in the search for extra performance from the brakes, but they usually help! Unless you mean something different entirely..... Either Euro Car Parts or German Swedish are generally not a bad starting point for cheaper spares.......... AlanB |

Give Ebay a try. I've bought nearly all my spares for my current resto. Mostly good quality parts too.
A pair of Lucas discs were £12 plus post for my Sport... Obviously you'll be looking at more for a Quat, but i'm sure you'd make a saving over GSF or the like.. |

I don't know if the urS4 got the same silly brakes as the V8, with those big holey covers OVER the discs, not the metal backing plates......

I have an article about the V8 where they converted it from that setup to the S6 set up.
Will try and dig it out. |

Hi Mort,
Sorry!... you were on about summat different entirely! Those ARE your discs!....... they are "inside-out"..... mounted from the edge, with the caliper facing "out"..... fitted over the inside of the disc. Get underneath and have a good look from the centre of the car; You will figure it out. As P-D suggests, the best option is a set of conventional discs and calipers. Yours are very prone to warping; the very thing they were (allegedly!) designed to prevent. AlanB |
