Got stuck in about it today.
It's always interesting working on a new car as you get a feel very quickly for whomever's worked on it last. Found a couple of obvious bodges and some careless bits that suggest it was a DIY special last time around.
Front off and cam belt off, water pump and idler both fine.
Belt cover was rancid but now fixed. The securing bolts for the bottom cover were completely rounded off, you don't do that putting a fixing on so I'd imagine that whomever tried to do the cambelt last did this and gave up. A bit of judicious slotting and tapping got them off easily enough.
The oil pressure sender connector was held on by a crocodile clip, trying to fix that properly snapped an internal connector so a new one's in the post. A complete pig to get off on the NG engine, however whilst in there I saw that there wasn't a jubilee clip holding the hose on to the back of the waterpump housing, obvious signs of dried antifreeze under there so that'll explain the 5L of water in the boot on arrival!
The water temp gauge always went to 90 degrees on the ignition going on, disconnecting the connector changed the reading so a sender fault. Another pig to get off in situ down to the spanner size required to go around it.
Plugs were tired but of a decent make, 2 were finger tight only. Rotor arm and distributor cap were badly carbonised, new ones ordered. Air filter fairly dirty.
Headlamps split and cleaned properly, tested on the bench and 2 bulbs replace, one was missing a rear cover, replaced also.
Got stuck into one of the door cards, the Coupe ones split easily and you can get the wood and cubby hole off, it makes doing the card easier than the 90.
Sanded back, prepped and painted the surrounds for the door switches, they were tired.
Found a better gearknob (the leathers completely split on the original) used a refurb treatment to clean it up, it looks good.
