If you have an adjustable strobe where you can dial in decrees BTDC (advance) you could use the 0 mark with 15 degres of advance dialed in to allow you to time it against the 0 mark rather than using a static gun against the 15 (on your engine 12 on mine) mark.
Not sure of the rpm you need to do this on your engine though check the manual for the setting, using the number one plug lead obvously.
