Either way with a or b, you will end up with marks along the edge so your wings and roof line. Worst case, it will rub through the paint. If it's tight, whilst movement will be minimised, you'll get a lot of small movement and rubbing along the edges where it's pulled tight .
OK for a car that you don't really care about, not ok for a car which has a nice paint job.
As it's in a car port, does it actually get wet at all? If not, I would refrain from putting a cover on it at all

The rain only really comes under the car port if its a strong South Westerly, alas, Wet and Windy Worthing is one long South Westerly Gale...
I have currently got it set up with 'b', which seems okay, however it does 'breath' up and down especially around the covers 'vent' which sits around the base of the windscreen area.
