Thanks Duffy, but they are orange painted cross-head screws that bolt through a black painted metal sleeve into a boss sewn into the base carpet.
I have always bought cheap "generic" mats in the past and to my shame,
I have never until now investigated properly and I have found that it is merely a 6mm panhead setscrew that is missing - easily available anywhere. DOHHHHHH
