Yep its pre TDi technology, but that 1588cc turbo diesel was a good unit in my opinion - capable of massive mileages and very economical.
I had a Passat with the same engine years ago as a company car and liked it. Well known journalist Peter Noad has had an F reg Series 80 TD since he bought it of the Audi UK press fleet in 1989. when it was 6 months old.
