I met John Buffum in June of 1998 at the Mt. Washington Hillclimb, Climb to the Clouds, he was the Chief Steward of the event. Got to chat with him, face to face at the start line/gate area, and he was great to talk to. At that point, there was no doubt, he was a fan himself.

I recommend the book written by his co-driver Tom Grimshaw, In Like a Lamb, Out like a Lion, ISBN#1-881539-02-4.

Rallying at this time (1984-86) was so savage, 400, 500 even 600 hp and these cars as phenominal as they handled were really held together with a fickle magic. Seems like the 1985 season in particular was fraught with mechanical failures. Spectacular to see and hear.

Buffum's car present (he was at Pikes with his son in law Paul Choiniere) on a previous year.
