Still sounds like a volume potentiometer fault to me.
I have an identcal fault on the toyota.
However it does crackle and can be wiggled to get it about right, but it can go from no sound to ear bleed in a second or so....
Amplifier has a control voltage that sets its output, without the voltage controlling it , it just goes full blast...or sumfing similar.
