Thanks, Mike. I'm also starting to think the ECU is bad. I've got an A6 with the same engine, but I'm skeptical about borrowing it's ECU since I don't want to damage it if there is another issue somewhere. What has me confused is I can read most of the modules in VCDS. Only the immobilizer and engine modules are not available. In my mind, it also makes sense that if the ECU is damaged the car should not start at all, yet it starts up perfectly, runs beautifully for 2 to 3 seconds and then just dies.
I've read somewhere that the immobilizer works with the central locking pump, so I'll try and have a look at that, maybe there is a connection there that got damaged.
So far just by visual inspection, the connections to the ECU and all the wires in the fuse box look good. If all else fails, I'll start looking for a good ECU specialist or maybe try and take the car to Audi.
